Philosophy and AI
"These large AI systems are quite different. We don’t really program them — we grow them" (Ian Hogarth, 2023).
Philosophy and AI
What has philosophy got to do with AI? And why am I interested in it? In 2019-20 I completed a philosophy MSc at LSE to further my understanding of foundational questions in social sciences, including economics. But whilst I was exploring this, advances in AI rapidly arose to become the transformational technology of our time, profoundly affecting all of our lives in many different ways. I wondered – how should we think about AI – and what will it do to economies, and society? Consequently, I completed another MA, in Philosophy and AI, to help my understanding of these issues. That has led me to start a PhD in Philosophy and AI at King’s College London, beginning in October 2025. I will complete this alongside my financial advisory and Board roles.
